How to Install Mods on Your Minecraft Java Server
Install Forge, Fabric, or Paper plugins on your MANAfuel Minecraft Java server using the dashboard mod installer.
Choose Your Mod Framework
Minecraft Java has three major mod frameworks: Forge (the largest mod ecosystem with tens of thousands of mods), Fabric (lightweight and performance-focused), and Paper/Spigot (server-side plugins that require no client mods). When you deploy a Minecraft Java server on MANAfuel, you select the framework during setup. Each framework has its own mod library, and mods from one framework are not compatible with another.
Deploy Your Server with the Right Framework
Open the MANAfuel dashboard and click Deploy. Select Minecraft Java Edition, choose your plan (Starter comes with 2 GB, Gamer with 4 GB, Creator with 8 GB), and pick your framework from the server type dropdown. For most modded servers, Forge or Fabric with 4 GB or more is recommended. Paper is ideal for plugin-only servers that need maximum performance. Your server deploys with the selected framework pre-configured.
Open the Mod Installer
Navigate to your server panel and open the Mod Installer tab. The installer connects to CurseForge and Modrinth depending on your framework, giving you access to thousands of mods and plugins. Search by name, category, or compatibility tag. Each mod listing shows its download count, last update date, and compatible Minecraft versions so you can verify compatibility before installing.
Install Your First Mod
Search for the mod you want — try "JourneyMap" for a popular quality-of-life addition. Click Install. Bob runs a pre-flight backup, downloads the mod JAR to the correct mods directory, and checks for missing dependencies. If the mod requires a library like Architectury or Cloth Config, Bob flags the dependency and offers to install it alongside the primary mod.
Configure Mod Settings
Most mods generate config files on first server start. Open the File Manager tab, navigate to the config directory, and edit any mod config file inline. Changes save directly to the server — no FTP required. For server-side settings like world generation mods, make your changes before generating a new world. Client-side configs like minimap settings are managed by each player on their own machine.
Verify Mods Are Loaded
Restart your server after installing mods. Check the server log in your dashboard — each mod reports its version and load status during startup. If a mod fails to load, the error message appears in the log with the specific cause: missing dependency, version mismatch, or mod conflict. Bob detects startup failures and surfaces the relevant log lines in your notification panel so you do not have to scroll through thousands of boot messages.
